Trailers: Exciting New Films

July 16, 2017

I wanted to notify you cinephiles out there about great trailers of films coming soon to cinemas.

American Made

Tom Cruise is back in action in this film about a crazy true story; a pilot called Barry Seal, who worked for CIA in Mexico during 1980's as a drug smuggler for Pablo Escobar and an undercover informant for CIA. The film definitely looks exciting and entertaining, and it's directed by action director Doug Liman. American Made is coming out on 25th of August.

Logan Lucky

Next up is a crime comedy film, Logan Lucky stars the talented indie actor Adam Driver, Channing Tatum and surprisingly, Daniel Craig and Hilary Swank. The film is about two brother planning a heist during a NASCAR race. Steven Soderbergh, known for other heist films such as Ocean's Eleven series directed Logan Lucky and he seems to be working on a sequel to Ocean's Eleven: Ocean's Eight; apparently it will be an all-female spin-off to the series and for some reason, star Rihanna. Logan Lucky is coming out on 25th of August as well.

The Greatest Showman

This is a film for the family coming out this Christmas. Hugh Jackman stars as P.T. Barnum who founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus in this biographical musical drama based on Barnum's life. Michelle Williams plays Barnum's wife and Zendaya is doing most of the singing, I think...

Patti Cake$

Patti Cake$ is also a music drama, centered on fictional rapper Patricia Dombrowski, a.k.a. Killa P, a.k.a. Patti Cake$. It's also a coming of age story with a strong female lead who will very likely take us on an emotional ride. It's the first directorial debut of music video director Geremy Jasper.

The film will be released in the UK on the 1st of September.

Breathe

Filmmakers have gone overboard with biographical films for the past few years, which I think is very interesting. Breathe is one of these, and it tells the real life story of Robin Cavendish, a young British man who gets paralysed from the neck down because of polio in 1958. The film stars Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy and is coming out on 27th of October.

The Glass Castle

The Glass Castle looks like a promising family drama; adapted to the screen from the memoir of Jeannette Walls. It tells the story of a nomadic family, and of Jeanette herself, played by Brie Larson. I'd watch anything with Woody Harrelson in it and even though I don't care much for Oscars, IndieWire thinks The Glass Castle is up for a nomination this year.

Dunkirk

I saved the best ones for last, Dunkirk probably is the most awaited film this year, as Christopher Nolan became the 'genius' director for millenials all around the world. I am not really sure about this film, but I love Nolan's work, I am just not a big war movie fan. I still think I will be impressed with the filming techniques in the film. Dunkirk tells the story of the evacuation of British soldiers who were trapped in the harbour town of France, Dunkirk, during World War II. Dunkirk recently had its world premiere in London and it will be released next Friday. Also, I honestly still don't know how Harry Styles got cast in this film.

Detroit

Another historical drama, a film I believe will have more impact than Dunkirk, is Detroit. The film is about the Algiers Motel murders, which comes up as 'Algiers Motel incident' everywhere and the 1967 Detroit Rebellion. Star Wars actor John Boyega stars in the film and it is directed by Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow. It's coming out on 4th of August.
